Rather less than 60% of those named on the quilt are males. There is a shortfall of males in the 35-39 age bracket and a excess of females in the 15-19 age bracket.
The youngest person named on the quilt was Kenneth Grant born on 15 September 1916 and the oldest living person was John Becking aged 91. The Mr J Reid who appears on the quilt we believe to be James Reid born on 25 October 1825 and who died on 8 August 1913.
Five years after the quilt was made, the regular census was taken across Canada. We have analysed the age distribution for those living in the Culross Township from this census data.
There was a ‘baby boom’ following the end of WWI and again there is a shortfall of males in the 35-39 age bracket, possibly reflecting the losses of those serving in the military.
The oldest resident was Patrick Lynett, a widower aged 100 who was born in Ireland in 1821.
