INTRODUCTION

Research

An analysis of the embroidered names and research using Ancestry.com showed that the blocks were likely to have been made between1934 and 1937 in Licking Township, Illinois, USA.

David March - February 2024

Patchwork blocks bought on a trip to the US by Gail Critchlow, probably in the 1970s. Passed to Maxine March in February 2024

Eighteen hand pieced blocks with a name (in one case, two names) embroidered within the eight pointed stars.

The patchwork blocks and the associated research into the making of the patchwork blocks were donated to the American Museum & Gardens, Bath, England, UK in April 2025.

It is anticipated that the patchwork blocks will enhance the story of quilt making as part of the Curious About Quilts Sessions which take place at the American Museum & Gardens.
