Louis Packer Allyn was born on 22 July 1852 in Ledyard, New London, Connecticut to Gurdon Spicer Allyn (1816-1876) and Hannah L Avery (1819-1858). He had six siblings, James (1840-1840), Francis Y (1843-1843), Hannah A (1844-1846), Harriet (b 1845), Juliaett (1849-1857) & Mary (1855-1856) and one half brother, Gurdon Champion (1860-1939). Louis married Emily Fenner Maxson on 24 October 1876 in Groton, New London. Emily was born on 30 June 1855 in Mystic, New London to William Emery Maxson (1818-1895) and Sarah Maria Fenner (1825-1916). Emily had eight siblings two of whom died at birth, Arthur Livingston (1847-1923), Alda Marie (1850-1851), Mary Elizabeth (1852-1853), Silas (1857-1929), Anne Elizabeth (1859-1860) and Charles Potter (1862-1941).
Louis built a factory producing oil and fertilizer as by-products of the fishing industry. Louis and Emily had three children,
Louis Maxson (Lou) (1877-1946),
Gurdon Spicer (Ges) (1879-1951) and
William Ellery (1885-1956).
Louis died on 19 June 1938 in Groton, New London and Emily died 6 December 1943 also in Groton.
Louis Maxson (Lou) Allyn was born on 21 September 1877 in Mystic, New London. Lou attended University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia where he trained as a doctor. He married Laura Abbie Greenman on 23 June 1909 in Mystic. Laura was born on 15 February 1875 in Mystic, New London to George Henry Greenman (1837-1935) and Ann Elizabeth Bowler (1842-1943). Laura had four siblings, Annie Bowler (1865-1937), William Clark (1867-1962), George Bowler (1871-1964) and Mary Frances (1879-1972).
Louis and Laura lived on Library Street and he had his surgery at 24½ W Main Street. They had two daughters, Lucia Greenman (1912-1996) and Emily Maxson (1916-1988). Laura died on 23 October 1922 in Mystic. Louis married Rachel Brewster Burnet on 9 January 1926, probably in Groton or Mystic. Rachel was born in Brooklyn, New York, probably on 27 March 1883 to Hiram B Burnet (1848-1924) and Rachel Coddington Wood (1849-1923). Rachel had one sister, Johann W (1877-1960).
Rachel was a teacher prior to her marriage and she seems to have carried on teaching after her marriage. They continued to live on Library Street at number 22 throughout their lives. Louis died on 31 March 1946 in Mystic. Rachel died on 8 May 1958.
Gurdon Spicer (Ges) Allyn was born on 29 December 1879 in Mystic. Like his brother he trained in medicine at University of Pennsylvania. Ges married Annie Balfour Hislop on 4 April 1907 in Mystic. Annie was born on 19 May 1880 in New London to James Hislop (1847-1908) and Annie Marion Brown (1853-1939). Annie had three brothers, James Thomas (1875-1880), Graham S (1882-1938) and Gordon I (1887-1966). Annie attended Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts prior to her marriage. Ges and Annie had two sons, James Hislop (1908-1991) and Gurdon Spicer, Jr (1911-1944).
Ges worked in general practice in New London in the early years of his marriage. In 1927 he was working as medical office on SS ‘George Washington’. From around 1930 onwards, he had given up medical practice and founded a real estate business developing water front properties. He died on 28 December 1951 in Stonington, New London. Annie died on 24 July 1953, also in Stonington.
