TRADES

Of the people with names on the quilt that we have identified exclusively and who were aged 16 or above in 1918, we have analysed their occupations as given in the 1916 census returns. We have categorised these occupations in trades. For example, carpenters, joiners & plumbers are all categorised as ‘building trade’.

The largest individual sector is ‘education’ with just under 10% of the work-force, followed by ‘rail-road’. Manufacturing is well represented by ‘farm implements’ but people mostly are employed in service industries.
