Bernard Matthew (Bert) Farrell was born about 1885 in Ontario, Canada. No records have been found to establish his parentage or siblings.
Bernard appeared in Saskatoon in 1911 (but not in the 1911 census). He was living at 264 2nd Ave S and was joint owner with J MacKenzie of King George Cigar Store & Pool Room at the same address. The following year he was living at 3 Ferguson Block, 140 2nd Ave S and was still in partnership with J MacKenzie.
In 1913, Bernard had opened Tuxedo Cigar Store in the ground floor of Cahill Block No 4 at 311 2nd Ave S. He was also joint proprietor with J MacKenzie the Tuxedo Pool Room also in the Cahill Block. From 1914-1919 Bernard remained as proprietor of the Tuxedo establishments. See Local History Room Photo. Bernard sold his interest in the Tuxedo businesses but they continued to exist under new owners for several years.
The 1916 census has Bernard married to Alice (b 1888) with a son George (b 1915) when they were living at 312 25th St E in Saskatoon. No further trace has been found.
This family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Farrell Tree.
In the same quilt block as Bernard’s signature are two other Farrell names, Lila & Lillian see below. We have not bee able to find any records for these two women, but is seems very likely that they were related to Bernard.
