Helen Sara (Ellen) Ferguson was born on 1 September 1907 in Ridgetown, Kent, Ontario to Hugh Ferguson (1865-1939) & Elizabeth (Lizzie) Ferguson (1876-1957). Ellen had two brothers, Donald James & John Duncan, who both died in infancy and two sisters, Elizabeth Renwick Dow (Betty) (1916-1995) & Margaret Duncan (1918-2006).
Ellen’s family came to Saskatoon in 1912 and resided at 414 11th St for several years. Hugh eventually found work at the ‘Phoenix’ newspaper, initially as a clerk and later as a bookkeeper. He was an accountant with Trotter & Stewart, Insurance, Real Estate with premises at Minvalia Building, 127 East 21st St, Saskatoon in 1920. He died in Saskatoon on 1 November 1939.
Ellen left Canada for Los Angeles in 1923, travelling on her own to room with her aunt on her mother’s side - Sarah Isabella Ferguson (1868-1959) who had married Andrew Mori Dow (1857-1933) and lived at 1351 Spauling Ave, Los Angeles. Ellen was intending to train as a teacher at South California University. Ellen applied for US naturalization in 1925. By 1930, Ellen was still living with her aunt’s family at 1351 Spauling Ave and working as a stenographer
Ellen married Robert William Fulwider (1903-1979) on 24 February 1940 in Yuma, Arizona. They lived at 1237 & later 1210 N Orange Grove Ave, Hollywood, Los Angeles. Ellen died on 4 June 1993 in Orange, California.
