FRANK C and NELLIE JOSEPHINE GIDDINGS née CHANNELL

Frank C Giddings was born on 17 January 1860 in Magog, Stanstead, Canada East to George Giddings (1828-1892) & Mary/Martha J Mann (1831-1890?). Frank had four brothers, Charles Deforest (1852-1880), Albert Curtis (1854-1935), William F (b 1856) & Herbert G (b 1858). The family lived and farmed at Magog, Stantead, Quebec, Canada.

Frank married Nellie Josephine Channell on 21 January 1882 in East Bolton, Brome, Quebec. Nellie was born in Brome, Quebec on 27 December 1864 to Francis Peasley Channel (1832-1912) & Sophia Amelia Sargeant (1834-1895). Nellie had one sister, Mary Ella (1855-1945) and four brothers, Francis Alfred (1868-1927), Charles (1871-1951), Edward (1873-1968) & John (1876-1920). Nellie’s family were farmers and she was a school teacher when she married Frank.

Frank & Nellie had two daughters, Jessie Eugenia (1886-1975) & Velma Beatrice (1897-1985) and two sons, Frederick (b 1891) and Bertram Francis (1895-1975).

By 1892, Frank and his brother Herbert (together with an Ornan S Cook) were listed in ‘The Eastern Townships Business and Farmers Directory’ as H & F Giddings & Co, chair manufacturers. Frank continued with this business whilst the family were growing up in Granby.

In 1910, they had moved to Saskatoon and were living at 337 4th Ave N. Frank had a spell in real estate and then opened the Saskatoon Children’s Carriage Co at 206 Wall St. This business seems to have thrived as he was employing several craftsmen by 1918.

Frank & Nellie retired to Long Beach, California around 1920. Frank died on 20 June 1941 and Nellie died on 29 December 1948 both in Los Angeles, California.
