Mildred Anne (Millie) Ross was born on 11 June 1902 in Skull Creek, Saskatchewan to Phillip Ross (1866-1940) and Ann Evelyn (Eva) Miller (1873-1960). Her siblings were: Maude Lillian (1899-2001), Allie Maxon Jennings (b 1900), Carl Percival (1904-1979) and Christina B (Christie) (b 1907). She was raised in the Skull Creek District of Saskatchewan until at least 1911. By 1916, the family had moved to the Piapot District of Saskatchewan. There is a school certificate that names several of the Ross children on page 349 of Piapot Prairie Trails and the Ross family History (written by Mildred's brother, Carol) is on pages 406-407. The book was published by Piapot History Group, Copyright 1979, but was reproduced on ourroots.ca where it can be viewed in a digital format for free. It is likely that Mildred was the nurse enumerated in Medicine Hat, Alberta in 1921, but there was not enough identifying information to be 100% sure.

It is a long shot that the Mildred in this family was the signer of the Millie Ross signature on the quilt as Piapot and Medicine Hat are 380 and 500 km, respectively, from Saskatoon. However, it is unknown where Millie took her nurses training, so there is some chance that she may have been in Saskatoon in 1918. On page 349 in the book referenced above Millie Ross appears on the image of a document, so it is known that she used that nickname and this gives some support that she may have been the signer. There was no other candidate that could be found to suggest for this signature. If anyone has information that supports or refutes that Mildred was the signer, please contact us.

This family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Ross Tree.

There are two possible candidates for the Millie Ross signature.
