THIRD AVENUE METHODIST CHURCH QUILT

A CANADIAN RED CROSS QUILT

Another quilt?

JENNIE SCOTT

Jeanette Scott was born in Saskatchewan in 1918 to John Thomas Scott (b 1881) and Joan Phillips (1886-1959). As her parents had different immigration dates in 1916 and 1921, it is presumed that they married in Canada. Jeanette had at least two siblings: Margaret (b 1916) and George H (b 1921). In 1916 the family lived at 1216 Ave E and in 1921 at 1237 Ave F. John was a painter.

Although people sometimes signed the names of children on the quilt, it is unlikely that this signature was added for the baby, Jeanette, because there was no signature for her older sister, Margaret.

Jean Scott was born in 1900 in Ontario, Saskatchewan. In 1916 she was lodging with John, Mary and George Edward Anderson at 213 Albert St in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. No occupation was listed for her, but she was identified as Methodist. She may possibly be the same Jean that is in 3rd Ave Scott Tree 3. Possibly she boarded for part of her school year in Saskatoon - the census descriptions are very similar.

Although none of these people signed close to each other on the quilt, there is the potential that all four of them may have signed the quilt. The following people were signers: Jack Anderson, Geo Anderson, Mary Anderson and Jennie Scott. Although efforts were made to see if Jean Scott was a relative of the Andersons, no connection could be found.

This family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Scott 2 Tree.

We have identified three possible candidates for the Jennie Scott signature, but as none are documented to have used the nickname Jennie, none may be the right candidate. If you know that one of the candidates used the name Jennie, please let us know.

Rebecca Hectorine "Jean" Scott was born on 18 September 1899 in Bracebridge, Muskoka, Ontario to Robert James George Scott (1874-1950) and Rebecca McEdward (1875-1973). Her siblings were: Mary Ann Doris (1900-1996), Roberta Eleanor (1905-2002) and George Duncan (1918-1945). In 1901 the Scott family was in Bracebridge and in 1910, McDougald, Beltrami, Minnesota. According to his obituary, Robert opened the first station at Mundair, Alberta and moved to homestead north of Saskatoon in 1907.

Robert later moved to Saskatoon and operated Equity Fuel for a number of years. From at least 1916 to 1921, the Scott family was living on 14-37-6-3 in the RM of Cory. Jean married Elmer Percy Perrin who was born on 19 January 1896 in Spy Hill, Saskatchewan to Franklin Young Perrin (1860-1938) and Hannah Anna Brown (1864-1932). Jean and Elmer lived in Struan, Saskatchewan from at least 1945 to 1950. Elmer died on 1 November 1976 and Jean in 1991. They likely both died in Coquitlam, British Columbia and were buried in Robinson Memorial Park, Coquitlam.

There is an interesting story about the Perrin family in "The Spy Hill Story" pages 172 - 176
