MARY MARGARET “IAN" MATHER

Mary Margaret "Ian" Mather was born on 9 September 1901 in Deloraine, Winchester RM, Manitoba to John Alexander Mather (1869-1960) and Beatrice Campbell Suttie (1875-1964). Although the name Jan is recorded on her birth registration, the name was Ian in her obituary and those of her parents, so Ian is undoubtedly her name. Her siblings were: Douglas Theodore (b 1904) and Beatrice Audrey (1905-1998).

The Mather family lived in Deloraine until at least 1911. According to her mother's obituary, the family moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1914. Her father was a barrister. In 1916 the family lived at 327 Saskatchewan Crescent and in 1921 at 211 11th St E.

Ian lived with her parents in Saskatoon at various addresses 211/218 11th St, 323 9th St, 1013 Victoria Ave, 102 Clarence Ave S, Sommerfield Block and Lorraine Apartments. She taught school at Pleasant Hill, Thornton, Princess, King George, Princess & Alexandra and Haultain schools for a total of 37 years.

Ian retired to Vancouver in 1964 after he mother died. Ian died in Victoria, British Columbia in 1999. She never married.
