ALBERT EDMOND YORK and AMERICA VICTORIA YORK née MILLS

Albert Edmond York was born to Thomas York (1811-1891) and Elizabeth (Eliza) Hanna (1823-1886) in Osgood, Ontario on 30 June 1855. His siblings were Henry Charles (1843-1934), Frederick Embury (1844-1925), Ephraim B (1847-1934), Louisa (1849-1927), Joseph Alfred (1851-1933), Marina Elizabeth (1857-1939) and Harriet Beulah (1860-1937). Albert also had two half-siblings, Caroline (1836-1923) and John William (1838-1927) by Thomas’ first wife Catharine Loucks (d about 1841).

Albert married Grace Hughes (1857-1886) daughter of John Hughes (1811-1886) and Mary Anne Eratt (1811-1906) in Winchester Township, Ontario on 9 January 1878 and they had two children, Annie “Luella” (b 1879) and Ida “May” (1880-1968).

Subsequently Albert married Phoebe Maria America “Victoria” Mills on 5 February 1889 in Ottawa, Ontario. Victoria was born on 17 May 1866 in Yarmouth, Elgin, Ontario to Minard Mills (b 1822) and Elva Oakes (1822-1893). Victoria had four siblings, Cecelia Delphine (b 1848), Cornelius (b 1852), Ida E (1855-1918) and John Franklin (b 1859).

Albert was a grocer when his family was living in Ottawa in 1891. Albert and Victoria had four children living with them, Volney Fletcher (1892-1952), Albert Griffith (1893-1893), Phebe Louise (1895-1994) and Maria “Constance” (b 1900).

In 1907 the family moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In 1918 Albert worked as a clerk at the post office, but according to his obituary was in the contracting business. The family lived at 204 5th Ave N from at least 1916 to 1921. Albert and Victoria joined 3rd Ave Methodist Church in Saskatoon in 1907. According to her obituary, Victoria was an elder of 3rd Ave United Church (formerly 3rd Ave Methodist). Albert died on 1 August 1937 in Saskatoon and Victoria, who had moved to Regina, Saskatchewan in 1940, died there 11 August 1954. Both are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon.
