RUGGLES WILLARD BRADLEY & MABEL AMELIA BRADLEY

Ruggles Willard (Rugg) Bradley was born on 10 February 1876 in Mantioc, Ontario to George Bradley (1840-1884) and Eliza Jean Beaman (1849-1899). Rugg had six siblings, Ida Florence (1870-1944), Howard Clayton (1872-1940), Emma Ince (1875-1892), Georgetta May (1878-1957), Byron Ellard (1881-1974) and Amelia Lucinda (1883-1947). George Bradley was a saddler and Rugg also later became a harness maker having moved to Manor, Sakatchewan.

Rugg married Rosabell Kirby on 25 June 1902 in Oxbow, Saskatchewan. Rosabell was born on 20 June 1881 in Oshawa, South Ontario to John W Kirby (b 1853) and Thomasena Matilda Corner (b 1854).

Rugg and Rosabell had five children,

Mabel Amelia (1903-1997),
George Albert (1906-1997),
Florence Olive 1909-2011),
Ethel (1913-1913) and
Alexander John (1918-1992).

Rugg and Rosabell were both active in community affairs.

He was on the Village Council, School Board, Church Board and Oddfellows Lodge. She worked with the Ladies’ Aid, Women’s Missionary Society and Rebekah Lodge.

Rugg died on 5 August 1967 and Rosabell died on 7 December 1973 both in Manor.

Mabel attended school in Manor and then went on to Regina Normal School. She trained as a nurse at Oshawa General Hospital. Mabel married William Lackner Ziegler on 28 June 1938 probably in Manor. William was born on 12 May 1887 in Wellington, Ontario to William H Ziegler (1854-1941) and Emeline E Small (1859-1954). William had four siblings, Edith (b 1883), F Harry (b 1885), Lancelot (b 1890) and Earl (b 1897).

Mabel and William had two children,

Ivan Bertram (b 1943) and
Melvin Richard (b 1944).

In later years, Mabel and William moved to the US and lived in Glendale, California where will was real estate agent. William died on 15 September 1970 and Mabel died in 1997.

We have been unable to find any direct association between Rugg and Mabel with the community in Culross, however Rugg used his initials as his trademark on harness goods.
