WILLIAM HENRY, JOHN "CHARLES" & JOSEPH HENRY WALL
William Henry Wall was born on 12 March 1866 in Kincardine, Ontario to John Wall (1839-1925) and Fanny Ellen Scott (1847-1905). His siblings were: Emma Jane (1868-1902), John Silas (1870-1952), Thomas James (1872-1963), Anna Elizabeth (1873-1949), Wilson Ira (1875-1962), Charles Lincoln (1878-1964), Robert Walter (1880-1960), Joseph Edward (1885-1951) and Ellen Fanny (1888-1915). He married Mary Ann Hanna on 11 March 1891 in Kinloss Twp, Bruce County, Ontario. Mary Ann was born on 26 November 1872 in Kinloss Twp to Charles Hanna (1837-1874) and Jane Crawford (1843-1926). Her siblings were: James (1867-1867), Martha Jane (1868-1882) and Joseph (1869-1956). She also had the following half siblings from her mother's second marriage to Christopher Carleton (1842-1917): Katherine "Helen" (Kate) (1875-1940), David (b 1878) and Caroline (1879-1900).
William and Mary Ann had three children,
Joseph Henry (1892-1956),
John "Charles" (1895-1960) and Ethel Mary Ann (1899-1987).
All of the Wall children were born in Culross Twp and the family lived there until at least the time of the 1921 census. Mary Ann died in Wingham, Ontario on 20 January 1964 and William on 29 March 1945 in Culross Twp. Both are buried in Culross-Teeswater Cemetery.
Joseph Henry Wall was born on 31 January 1892 in Culross Twp. He married Annie Jane Conley on 27 October 1915 in Bruce County. She was born on 27 August 1895 in Kinloss Twp to James Conley (1852-1902) and Anne Jane Lockhart (1857-1925). Her siblings were: an infant (1882-1882), Joseph (1884-1972), Ida Elizabeth (1886-1975) and Mary (1893-1990).
Joseph and Anne had four children,
Elmer Henry (1917-2005),
Verna Grace (1918-2006),
Cora Ethel (b 1920) and
Grant (1928-1994).
In 1921 this Wall family was living in Culross Twp. Annie died on 8 January 1983 in Walkerton, Ontario and Joseph on 10 December 1956 in Teeswater, Ontario. Both are buried in the Culross-Teeswater Cemetery.
John "Charles" Wall was born on 9 December 1895 in Bruce County, Ontario. He married Verna Merle Brown on 16 October 1918 in Bruce County. She was born on 3 April 1897 in Kincardine, Ontario to Alexander Brown (1857-1932) and Martha Hilder (1861-1912). Her siblings were: Erma Irene (1896-1897) and Enid Gladis Winifred (b 1899).
Charles and Verna had at least one child, James Arthur (b 1920). At the time of the 1921 census they were living in Culross Twp. Charles died in 1960 and Verna in 1981. Both are buried in Kincardine Cemetery, Kincardine, Ontario.
A Charles Wall signed the quilt in two places. It is unknown if both names were for the same person. Only one Charles Wall could be found living in the Culross Twp area in the 1918 time period. There was a Charles Lincoln Wall, brother of William and uncle of John Charles Wall discussed above, but he moved to Saskatchewan by 1911 and appeared to have stayed there as he died in Weyburn, Saskatchewan in 1964. It is possible that he was home for a visit or asked to have his name put on the quilt, but this is pure speculation and seems unlikely.
This family can be found on Ancestry under the title Culross Wall Tree.
