Elizabeth Matilda (Tillie) Walker was born on 7 March 1884 to Joseph Walker (1849-1928) and Mary Elizabeth McKague (1859-1927). Tillie had eight siblings, Elizabeth Mary (1886-1904), John Russell (1887-1962), Ellen Lovinia (1889-1901), Joseph Leslie (1892-1974), Hugh Clifton (Cliff) (1893-1972), Mabel Gertrude (1896-1984), James Edward (1897-1966) and Theresa "Olive” (1898-1983).
Tillie was born and raised in Culross Twp. On 23 November 1917 she enlisted as a nurse in the Overseas Military Forces of Canada. Her enlistment papers indicated that she had previously spent a year in military service in Malta. She served as a nursing sister in WWI.
Tillie married Thomas James Wilson on 7 October 1925 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Thomas was born on 2 March 1886 in MacDonald, Manitoba to John Wilson (1859-1929) and Helen McDonald (1862-1946). Thomas like his father was a rancher. Thomas died on 2 September 1947 in Empress, Alberta. We have found no record of Tillie’s death.
Cliff Walker was born on 21 October 1893 in Teeswater, Ontario. He married Annie Elizabeth Smith on 21 September 1921 in Wentworth, Ontario. Annie was born on 29 September 1894 in Hamilton, Ontario to James Douglas Smith (1855-1943) and Rose Tullis (1856-1972). Her siblings were: Edward (1883-1984), James Douglas (Bud) (1884-1955), Robert (Bob) (1886-1969), Gordon Alexander (1888-1966), Annie Elizabeth (1894-1992) and Alice Nairns (b 1896). At the time of his marriage and at the time of the 1921 census, Cliff was living in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. Several of the Walker children lived there at some point in their lives. H Clifton and Annie E were buried in Portage La Prairie Cemetery in 1972 and 1992 respectively.
Mabel Walker was born on 19 January 1896 in Culross Twp. She was single and working as a domestic in the John and Janet McGregor household in Brandon, Manitoba at the time of the 1921 census. Just a few households away, her future husband, William "Gordon" Nichol was living with his parents. Gordon was born on 29 July 1895 in Elton, Manitoba to William Nichol (1856-1922) and Hannah Elizabeth (Anna) Reading (1857-1931). He had three half siblings born to his father and his first wife, Mary Ann Cochran (1861-1888). They were Anne Elilian May (1881-1958), Clarie Maud (Carrie) (1883-1962) and James Henry (Jim) (1888-1966). Gordon and Mabel were married in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba on 7 December 1921. He died on 17 March 1966 and Mabel on 4 August 1984. Both died in Brandon, Manitoba and were buried in the Brandon Municipal Cemetery. No information about possible children could be found.
James Walker was born on 16 August 1897 in Culross Twp, Bruce County. He enlisted for WWI on 13 June 1918. At the time of the 1921 census, he was living in Culross Twp with his parents and sister, Olive. He married Mabel W Bourn sometime after 1930. Mabel was born on 20 September 1893 in Grand Valley, Ontario to William Butler Bourn (1856-1936) and Maria Edna Crawford (1859-1933). Her siblings were: Edna Agnes Wilhelmina (1880-1954), Margaret Tresham (1882-1919), Jessie Augusta (1885-1985), Florence Amelia (1888-1981), Charles Francis (1891-1898), Eliza "Georgina" (Annie) (1896-1995) and William Polley (1899-1983). Coincidentally, James brother, Joseph, married, Mabel's sister, Jessie. James died in 1966 and Mabel in 1983. Both are buried in Smith's Cemetery, Bruce County, Ontario.
Olive Walker was born on 18 November 1898 in Bruce County. Her maiden name is on her tombstone which would indicate that she never married. She died in 1983 and was buried in Smith's Cemetery where several other family members were also buried.
