Samuel J Clysdale was born on 28 September 1849 in Dummer, Peterboorough, Ontario to James Clysdale (1823-1913) and Mary Jones (1829-1908). Samuel married Hannah Matilda Nixon on 22 November 1870 in Asphodel, Peterborough. Hannah was born on 9 May 1852 in Asphodel to Ezikiel Nixon (1825-1903) and Mary Ann Garrison (1829-1902).
Samuel and Hannah had one daughter, Mary Etta (1871-1959). Subsequent to Hannah’s death on 5 April 1879, Samuel married Mary Jane Kempt on 1 October 1879.
Samuel and Mary had four children,
Samuel (1880-1881),
Herbert Lawrence (1881-1936),
Frederick Ernest (1884-1966) and
Annie Edna (1886-?1924).
Subsequent to Mary’s death in November 1888, Samuel married Edith L Brightwell on 21 May 1889 in Lambton, Ontario. Edith was born on 20 November 1868 in Lambton to Richard Brightwell (1838-1917) and Thirza Ellen Havers (1847-1938). Edith had four siblings, Thirza Mahala (b 1871), Christina Maude (b 1873), John Kelsie (b 1875) and Fern (b 1893).
Edith and Samuel had four children,
Gordon Russel (1891-1915),
Arthur Bruce ( 1894-1978),
Earle Stewart/Stuart (1897-1976) and
Keith Brightwell (1900-1979).
Samuel died on 25 March 1933 in Lambton, Ontario and Edith died in 1964.
Frederick Ernest Clysdale was born on 28 February 1884 in Haliburton, Ontario. He was already a Methodist minister when he married Edith Mabel Mills on 28 June 1911 in Blyth, Huron County. Edith was born on 5 July 1882 Hullett, Huron County to John ((1840-1901) and Sarah Ann Bingham (1848-1911). Edith had four siblings, William (b 1868), John Albert (b 1869), Amelia/Sarah Ann (1877-1957), Florence (Flora) Ann Kezia (1878-1972).
It is thought that Edith died on 13 September 1913.
Frederick married Edith’s sister, Florence (Flora) Ann Kezia Mills in Blyth on 10 November 1914.
Frederick and Flora had two children,
Edith Mabel (b 1916) and
Evylen (b 1920).
As a Methodist minister, Frederick and the family moved regularly: to Liverpool (1935), Palmerston (1940) and Thorndale (1947).
Frederick died in 1966 and Flora died in 1972. They are buried in Blyth Union Cemetery, Hullett Twp, Huron County.
