MARGARET COLLINS
John Francis Collins was born on 25 August 1853 in Ottawa, Ontario to Francis Collins(1807-1875) and Catherine Reid (1811-1982). John had ten siblings, Edward Alexander (1832-1907), William Edward (1834-1893), Thomas F (1836-1904), Eliza Jane (1838-1894), Deborah (1842-1914), Richard (b 1846), Henry (1847-1904), Mary R (1848-1894), Ann (1851-1928) and Francis Benjamin (1855-1855).
John was farming by the time he married Mary Jane Sturgeon in Kincardine Twp on 28 June 1897. Mary was born on 15 August 1860 in Kincardine to James Sturgeon (1829-1913) and Elizabeth Jane McMillan (1837-1895). Mary had seven siblings, Sarah (1864-1915), David Austin (1865-1957), William James (b 1867), Annie (b 1870), John George (1870-1937), Charles Irwin (1880-1944) and Robert (b 1881).
Mary died four days after giving birth to their first child, Mary Evelyn (1900-1993), born on 21 May 1900 in Kincardine.
John married Margaret MacAuley on 3 September 1901 in Ripley, Bruce County. Margaret was born on 14 October 1853 in Ireland to Robert MacAuley and Fanny Cox. It is likely that Margaret and her sister, Mary (1858-1887) had travelled to Canada together in about 1867, but we have been unable trace any records to confirm this. At the time of her marriage, Margaret was working as a milliner and John was a farmer.
John and Margaret were living ‘on income’ at South Jessie St , Huron Twp in 1911.
Margaret died on 12 June 1926 in Ripley and John died on 19 November 1928 in Kincardine Twp.
