AUGUST (GUSTAV) HENRY HASENPFLUG
& Mrs G HASENPFLUG née IDA ARVILLA GARNEAU

August (Gustav) Henry Hasenpflug was born on 25 January 1875 in Milverton, Perth, Ontario, Canada to Conrad Hasenpflug (1850-1911) and Julia Ann Hohl (1853-1938). Gustav had five siblings, Clarissa (b 1879), Amelia (1884-1962), Melvina (Vina) (b 1886), William (b 1889), and Frederick (b 1893).

By 1901, Gustav had moved to Teeswater, Bruce County and was living at the hotel owned by William Varron. He was a general merchant. Gustav married Ida, a widow, on 31 August 1904 in Shelbourne, Dufferin County.

Ida Arvilla Garneau was born on 1 March 1874 in Drayton, Wellington County to William Garneau (1845-1922) and Melinda Clemence (1847-1932). Ida had four siblings, Anson Thomas (b 1867), Melissa Jane (b 1867), Arthur Artimus (b 1869) and William Clarence (Lorne) (b 1882).

Ida married Abraham B Farrell (1871-1903) on 23 August 1894 in Wellington, Ontario. Ida and Abraham had two children,

Lorne Stanley (1896-1946) and
Muriel Ida (1898-1992).

Following Abraham’s death, Ida married Gustav on 31 August 1904 in Dufferin, Ontario. Gustav continued in business as a general merchant until at least 1921.

Note: the names on the quilt are spelled Hasenflug, but we have been unable to find anyone with this name in the Culross area.
