JOSEPH McPHAIL
Joseph McPhail was born on 20 November 1879 in Carrick, Bruce County to John M McPhail (1842-1918) and Frances Cremer (1851-1935). Joseph had seven siblings, Angus (1871-1945), John (1875-1955), Robert Allan (1876-1951), Catharina (1883-1909), Mary Elizabeth (1886-1899), Isabella D (1890-1941) and Daniel (1892-1917).
Joseph’s father was born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and came west in about 1860 to settle in Carrick. Joseph farmed in Carrick and later Walkerton.
Joseph died in 1968 and is buried in Walkerton Cemetery.
Joseph’s brother, Daniel, enlisted in the CEF on 30 March 1916 in Toronto. He was killed in the fighting in the Nord-de-Calais, France on 20 September 1917 and is buried in the De Aix-Noulette Communal Cemetery Extension, Pas-de-Calais, France.
