RICHARD RICE

Richard Rice was born on 3 August 1863 in East Zorra Twp, Oxford County to Thomas Rice (1821-1911) and Annie Biggins (182-1923). Richard had seven siblings Maria (1849-1851), Ellen M (1849-1939), Mary Anne (1855-1930), John Henry (1856-1933), George (1859-1890), David (1866-1940) and Martha J (1868-1960).

Richard worked on the family farm in East Zorra until at least 1891. Richard returned to support his sister, Mary Ann, when her husband, James Hallock (1854-1896), died in a typhoid outbreak in East Zorra. Mary Ann was left with six children under 15 years old.

In 1921, Richard lodged with William and Elsie Hill at 203 Main St Woodstock, Oxford County whilst working as a labourer. He is still described as a labourer in Woodstock 1935 when he was 72 years of age.
