ISAAC BRYSON BARCROFT BOWEN and FRANCIS MARY BOWEN née DEYL

Isaac Bryson (Bryce) Barcroft Bowen was born on 30 November 1890 in Northumberland, Ontario, Canada to Joseph Steven Bowen (b 1866) & Annie McGraw/McGrath (1864-1936). Isaac had two sisters, Selena (b 1885) & Mary Albina (1896-1926) and five brothers, James Oliver (b 1886), Stephen Doherty (b 1889), Ernest E (b 1892), Hilary Joseph (1898-1934) & Clement Alphonsus (1902-1982).

The family grew up in Cobourg, Northumberland West, Ontario before Bryce branched out and began working as chief clerk for GTP freight office in 1916. At about this time, Bryce married Francis Mary Deyl (born on 16 January 1895 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA). Francis was the daughter of William Aloysius Deyl (1869-1947) & Matilda Bertha Wills (b 1867). Francis had two sisters, Susan F (b 1885) & Florence Isabel (1903-2003) and one brother, Robert William (b 1898). Francis grew up in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA and came to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada with her family in 1901. Bryce & Francis had one son William Joseph (1917-1984).

In 1921, the family was living at 1113 Ave C North, Saskatoon and Bryce was an advertising salesman.

Bryce worked for the local paper, initially the ‘Daily Star’, later the ‘Star-Phoenix’ up to his 70’s. He died on 9 December 1963 and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon.

After Bryce died, Francis moved to Connox, British Columbia where she herself died on 15 June 1980 aged 85. She was buried next to Bryce in Woodlawn Cemetery, Sasktoon.
