THIRD AVENUE METHODIST CHURCH QUILT

A CANADIAN RED CROSS QUILT

Another quilt?

NEDA REBECCA BOWMAN

Neda Rebecca Bowman was born on 1 January 1915 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada to Aden Michael Bowman (1888-1957) & Lillie Fern ? (1894-1969). Neda had two brothers, Earl (1918-1987) & Ralph (b 1927).

Aden Bowman came to Saskatoon around 1906 from the US and started with a small bicycle repair shop. After his brothers, Irvin & Roy, joined the business in 1913 it grew into Bowman Brothers specializing in wholesale auto parts, household appliances and machine shop services. The Aden Bowman Collegiate on Clarence Ave, Saskatoon is named after him.

Neda lived at home with her family, taking employment as a dietician and then clerk prior to marrying Eric George Walling (b 1907) around 1945.

Neda died in Saskatoon on 21 July 2003.

Neda was clearly too young to have signed the quilt herself and it is assumed that her mother signed for her.

Their family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Bowman Tree.

Two advertisements from the Henderson City Directories, 1908 on the left & 1920 on the right, show the growth of the Bowman Brothers business and cast a light on the social changes taking place in Saskatchewan - bicycles and skates are replaced by auto parts.
