Clara May Cairns was born on 28 April 1886 in Clarenceville, Missisquoi, Québec, Canada to the Reverend Hugh Cairns (1841-1920) & Ida Laura Smillie (1860-1930). Clara had two siblings, Ida Maria (1880-1977) & Wesley Hugh (1888-1890). Ida Laurie was Rev Hugh Cairns’ second wife. His first wife was Maria Mountain (1843-1878) by whom he had one son Samuel James Frederick, known as J F. J F Cairns founded the Saskatoon departmental store which bore his name.
Clara grew up in Ontario and became a school teacher around 1912 when she came with her family to Saskatoon. They lived at 416/418 10th St E for many years. Her father died on 31 October 1920 and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery. Clara continued to live with her mother at 418 10th St E until 1923. No further trace of her has been found.
Ida Laura continued to live at 418 19th St E and died on 9 May 1930. She is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon.
