Violet May Cameron was born on 10 February 1891 in Meerut, Bengal, India and Constance Cameron was born in 1899 also in India to William Henry Cameron (1857-1914) & Mary Elizabeth Geldart (b 1867).
William Henry Cameron was born in Scotland and Mary Elizabeth was born in Devonport, Devon, England. It is likely that William and Mary married in Dublin, Ireland on 27 April 1887. Their first two children, William Henry Jr (b 1888) and Hilda Mary (1889-1889) were born in Ireland. According to Henry’s obituary published in the Saskatoon Phoenix (p3), Henry served with the Royal Horse Artillery for twenty-two years, including ten years in India. Assuming he left the army before he came to Canada in 1903, he would have joined the army about 1880, when he was aged 23.
Their other children were Charles Victor Cameron (b 1893), Reginald Thomas Cameron (1894-1931) and Henry (Harry) John Cameron (b 1897); all were born in India.
The family came to Canada on SS ‘Lake Manitoba’ departing Liverpool about 6 April 1903 and arriving in St John, New Brunswick on 12 April en route to Saskatoon. According to his obituary Henry homesteaded to the south of Saskatoon, worked for a year on the Saskatoon Phoenix and then took the post of Licence Inspector for Saskatoon which he still had when he died suddenly on 14 March 1914. He is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon.
Violet was born on 10 February 1891 in Meerut, Bengal, India. She lived with her family at 317 Ave E N, Saskatoon and worked as a clerk at Eatons store.
Charles was born on 27 June 1893 in Meerut, Bengal, India. He worked as a clerk in the Bank of Hamilton, living with the family at 317 Ave E N, until he enlisted in the military on 16 May 1916.
Reginald was born on 5 December 1894 in Ambala, Bengal, India. He enlisted in the military on 4 December 1916 but was discharged as medically unfit on 30 December the same year. He died in Essondale, British Columbia on 23 March 1931.
Harry was born on 7 April 1897 in Ambala, Bengal, India. He also worked at the Bank of Hamilton in Saskatoon and enlisted on 3 November 1915 as Private 472559. He was assigned to the 44th Battalion, New Brunswick Regiment. He was killed in France on 10 August 1918 and is commemorated at Fouquescourt Cemetery, Somme, France.
Constance worked as a stenographer for various companies in Saskatoon.
No other trace of the family has been found. Charles may have married a Hilda (Brooke?) and had a daughter Marion born in 1913, though the 1921 Census record is unclear and this may well be a different CV Cameron.
Their family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Cameron Tree.
