SARAH (SADIE) LOUISE WHITE née PRIEST
Sarah (Sadie) Louise Priest was born in Potsdam, St Lawrence, New York, USA to George Priest (1841-1923) & Mary Irene Shipman (b 1849). Sadie had one sister Harriet Elizabeth also born in Potsdam, St Lawrence. There is uncertainty over the dates of birth of the sisters; both are recorded in various returns as 1874 or 1882.
The family came to Simcoe North, Ontario, Canada about 1883 and were living Flos in 1891 where George was a mill labourer. Sadie married William James White on 4 January 1905 in York, Ontario. William was born on 28 June 1880 in Edinburgh, Scotland to Robert White and Theresa Adel Hunt. He had two siblings, Robert H (b 1865) and Adelaide (b 1869). According to Sadie’s obituary, she and William moved to Saskatoon in 1905. 1906–1921 census records found them living on 35-36-6-W3 Meridian about 3 miles from Saskatoon. According to his obituary, William had attained the rank of Colonel in the military and had become a poultry farmer. William enlisted for WWI on 10 February 1916. The residence given on that document was 427 4th Ave N, so perhaps they moved to Saskatoon so that Sadie would be in the city while he was away. They were both enumerated in the same area of the city in 1916, but were back on the farm by 1921. They had no children. William died on 26 July 1937 and was buried in the military section of Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon. Sadie died on 10 March 1961 and was buried in a different section of the same cemetery.
