MARY ISABELL (BELLE) WHITE née SWEET

Mary Isabell (Belle) Sweet was born on 26 August 1878 in Oxford, Ontario to Walter Henry Sweet and Mary Ann Watt. She had one sister, Pearl Lovinue Sweet, (b 1887). The Sweet family lived in Middleton and Dereham, Norfolk County, Ontario in 1881 and 1891 respectively.

Belle married Thomas Minor White on 4 January 1899 in Oxford, Ontario. He was born on 25 October 1876 in Middleton to David William White and Sophronia Jennette Ronson. He had one brother Charles William (b 1877). Thomas and Belle had a daughter Gladys May who was born on 19 January 1900 in Tilsonburg, Oxford County, Ontario. She died on 5 September of the same year. Thomas and Belle were living in Middleton at the time of the 1901 census. Three more children were born to them in Norfolk County: Thomas William Lloyd on 30 October 1901, Leta Gertrude Alberta on 30 November 1903 and Saphronia Anne Pearl on 17 November 1905.

In later census years, the White family moved to various locations in Saskatchewan and could be found in Moose Jaw in 1911, on land in 29-19-W3 Meridian, Hillsburgh RM in 1916 and at 310 Ave E North, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1921. There was a border crossing record for Belle dated 20 February 1926 that indicated she was moving to Detroit, Michigan to establish permanent residence. Her husband’s address was North Battleford, Saskatchewan. At the time of the 1930 census Belle and her son, Lloyd, lived in the same household in Detroit, Michigan. Nothing further could be found about this family.
