THIRD AVENUE METHODIST CHURCH QUILT

A CANADIAN RED CROSS QUILT

Another quilt?

“EDYTHE” MARGARET ADALINE WHITE

“Edythe” Margaret Adaline White was born on 25 February 1886 in Carleton, Ontario to Thomas Henry White and Annie Scott. Her siblings were Henry J (1883) and Gertrude Margaret (Gertie) (1889). In 1891, the White family lived in York, Ontario.

Her father died on 4 March 1893 and her mother married John Anderson Brown on 5 February 1903. In 1901 Edythe and Gertie were enumerated with Annie Crosson and her family in Woodbridge, York, Ontario and were listed as adopted. Both birth dates matched the White girls born to Thomas and Annie exactly.

By 1906, they were living with John Brown, their mother, and John’s children from a previous marriage to Mary Ann Farr. They were enumerated under the name “White”. Their residence and names remained the same in the 1911 census. In 1916, both girls were enumerated under the name “Brown” and were living with their widowed mother at 1012 McPherson in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

A teacher, twenty five year old Winnifred Briars was lodging with them. At this time, Edythe was a milliner and Gertrude was a teacher. Although her mother, Annie, was living at 429 3rd Ave N at the time of the 1921 census and the 1920 and 1921 Saskatoon Henderson Directories had Edythe White living at the same address, she was not enumerated there in 1921. Nothing more could be discovered about Edythe.

This family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave White 4 Tree.
