JOSEPH EDWIN UNDERWOOD and LINA FLORENCE UNDERWOOD née CASE

Joseph Edwin Underwood was born on 3 November 1882 in Huron, Ontario to Joseph Underwood (1853-1932) and Mary Millar (1860-1924). His siblings were: John Andrews (1884) and Earl Havelock (1897). In 1891 and 1901, he was living with his parents and siblings in Howick, Ontario. He married Lina Florence Case on 6 December 1911 in York, Ontario. She was born on 20 June 1888 in Pine Orchard, Ontario to Charles Augustus Case (1847-1920) and Margaret "Asenath" Cummer (1845-1901). Her father was married twice. Siblings from his marriage to Elizabeth Lundy were: Lottie May (1873) and John S (1875). Siblings born to Lina's mother were: Edith Olive (1879-1907), Mary Elizabeth (1880-1910), Arvilla (1883) and Samuel Glen (1885). In 1891 and 1901, Lina lived with her parents and siblings in Whitchurch Township, Ontario.

The 1912 Saskatoon Henderson Directory listed J Edwin Underwood of McArthur, Murphy and Underwood, Surveyors & Engineers, living at 115 4th Ave S. Lena and Joseph's first child, Bruce, was born in 1913 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Two more children, Edith (1914) and Beth (1917) were also born in Saskatchewan. In 1916 and 1921, the family was living at 1028 Aird St in Saskatoon. The 1918 Henderson Directory for Saskatoon listed Joseph with Murphy and Underwood and the 1916 census indicated that he was a civil engineer. Lina died on 1 September 1931 and Joseph on 7 April 1960, both in Saskatoon. Both are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon.
