HANNAH and MARY GREEN

Hannah & Mary Green were sisters born to Richard Green (1821-1891) & Martha Ann McCauly (1825-1894). Hannah was born on 6 August 1867 in Holland, Grey North, Ontario and Mary was born on 23 March 1873 in Owen Sound, Grey, Ontario. They came from a large family of nine girls and three boys: Ann S (1848-1919), Margaret Jane (b 1849), Isabella (1851-1915), Elizabeth (b 1852), Martha (1854-1949), Thomas (1856-1920), Helen (Ellen) (1858-1923), Sarah (1858-1891), Richard (1864-1938) and William John (b 1870). Richard farmed in Grey County and this is where the family grew up.

By 1908 Hannah & Mary had moved west to Saskatoon; Hannah ran a boarding house on 22nd St and Mary roomed there whilst working as a music teacher. The sisters lived together throughout their lives. They moved to 212 4th Ave N and Hannah worked as a nurse from 1910-1918. Mary appears to have stopped teaching music about 1916. They lived at 212 4th Ave N until about 1929 when the moved to 4285 W 11th St, Vancouver where the lived together until Hannah’s death on 18 March 1942. Mary lived on in Vancouver, moving along the street to number 4821 where she died on 30 January 1958.
