MARY née GERTRUDE WALKER

Mary Jane Cheetham was born on 24 July 1874 in Manchester, Lancashire, England to Herbert Cheetham (1855-1923) and Jemima Cook Maiden (1853-1909). Her siblings were Florence Elizabeth (1878-1959), Annie (1880-1937), Tom Bancroft (1882-1971), Edith Emma (1884-1946), Isabella (1888-1926) and Matthew (1889-1967). In 1881, the Cheetham family was living in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England. Mary married William Clifton Walker on 11 March 1896 in Yarm, Yorkshire, England. He was born on 9 April 1868 in West Hartlepool, Durham, England to Edward Walker (1831-1876) and Henrietta Lawson (1834-1879). Three children, Gertrude (1897-1985), Herbert Thompson (1898-1991) and Amy Audrey (1900-1905) were born in England. On 6 April 1905, the family boarded SS ‘Virginian’ in Liverpool, England and arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia on 14 April. The 1906 census found them living in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, but by this time Amy had died. Four more children were born in Saskatoon, Clifton Bancroft (1906-1908), Lawrence Aubrey (1910-1988), George William Rutherford (1913-2001) and Edward (1918-1918). From 1916 to 1921 the Walker family lived at 226 Saskatchewan Dr and William was a painter.

In about 1921, Gertrude who was born on 16 January 1897 in Eccles, Lancashire, England, married Sidney James Boyte. Sidney was born on 18 March 1897 in Reigate, Surrey, England to John Boyte and Ellen Snelgar. They had two children: Doris Boyte (1923-2003) and John Clifton (1925-2003). In 1921, Gertrude and Sidney were living in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Both Sidney and Gertrude died in Vancouver, British Columbia; Sidney on 9 February 1968 and Gertrude on 25 November 1985. Gertrude's father, William died in North Vancouver on 7 November 1938 and her mother in the same place on 6 September 1964.
