ROLAND GEORGE WILLIAM and ELLEN MARY (NELLIE) DANN née WALLER and

ROSE ELLEN FINCH

George Dann (1816-1867) married Fanny Ashdown (1815-1898) on 6 August 1836 in Lewes, Sussex, England. George & Fanny had eight surviving sons including George Rowland (1844-1927) and four surviving daughters including Frances (Fanny) (1855-1941).

George Roland married Martha Adams (1858-1911) in October 1871 in Battle, Sussex. George & Martha had four sons, George Rowland (1872-1935), John Rowland (1874-1936), Roland George William (1881-1966) and Bernard Reginald Roland (1890-1958) and three daughters, Amy Georgina (1876-1951), Ida Martha D (1886-1924) & Eva Irenea S (188-1897).

Roland GW Dann was working for the family market garden in 1901. He first came to Canada in 1905 and again in 1908 on SS ‘Siberian’. In the 1911 census Roland was a constable, living in Strathcona, Alberta. Roland returned to England arriving in Liverpool on 12 July 1914. He married Ellen Mary (Nellie) Waller in Hastings, Sussex and the couple travelled to Canada on SS ‘Tunisian’, arriving in Quebec on 14 September 1914. Nellie was born in 1887 in Wincanton, Somerset to Henry Claude Waller (1862-1935) & Mary Philadelphia Hammond (1863-1947).

Roland & Nellie had two daughters, Laurion/Lorraine? (b 1915) & Shirley W (1924-2008) and two sons, Roland Edison(1917-1942) & Bernard L(b 1920).

Frances (Fanny) Dann was born on 18 February 1855 in Hellingly, Sussex. She married Alfred Finch (1856-1933) in 1883 in Battle, Sussex. Alfred & Fanny had five sons, Alfred Harry (b 1884), Herbert Cecil (b 1885), Arthur Frederick (b 1891), George Eric (b 1894) & Charles Courtney (b 1898) and five daughters, Rose Ellen (1886-1959), Evelyn F (b 1888), Fanny Olive (b 1889), Amy M (b 1893) & Lilian May (b 1896).

Rose sailed to New York on SS ‘Mauretania’ arriving on 16 August 1912. In 1916 she was a chef in a hotel owned by Arthur Eccles in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. In 1918 she was employed in the Cafe Royal, Saskatoon and living with her cousin, Roland GW Dann at 1023 Aird St.

Rose married Francis Frederick William Jury (1890-1979) on 29 November 1922 in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba. Francis & Rose had one son Lawrence Francis (1923-1983).
