THIRD AVENUE METHODIST CHURCH QUILT

A CANADIAN RED CROSS QUILT

Another quilt?

Eleanor (Annie) Dobson was born on 23 September 1855 in England to Stephen Dobson (b 1821) & Hannah Wilkinson (b 1925). Annie had two brothers, John (b 1848) & Stephen Jr (b 1868). Stephen Sr and Hannah grew up in the West riding of Yorkshire, England where they both worked in the woollen trade, Stephen as a comber and Hannah as a weaver. They emigrated to Canada probably about 1860, certainly before 1868 as Stephen Jr was born in Canada. In Canada Stephen Sr took up the trade of foundry maker and later carpenter.

Annie married John Robinson on 13 November 1878 in Lindsay, Victoria, Ontario. John was born in Australia about 1856 to Luke & Fanny. John came with his family via England to Canada arriving in Quebec on 8 October 1877. John was a gunsmith. John & Annie had one daughter Anna Rosa (Nellie) (Annie) Robinson who was born on 29 April 1880 in Victoria, Ontario. John died on 4 December 1894.

Rosa was a music teacher prior to her marriage to Malcolm Cole on 23 September 1903 in Victoria, Ontario. Malcolm was born on 1 October 1871 in Waterloo, Ontario to Isaac Cole (1834-1916) & Zipporah Woods (1841-1914). Malcolm had two brothers, Charles Edward (1858-1935) & Isaac D (b 1869) and one sister Clarissa (b 1861). Malcolm was a grocer when he married and later became an insurance agent before moving to real estate. They lived at 529 4th Ave N for many years. Rosa’s mother Annie lived with them until she died on 29 April 1943. Rosa died on 12 October 1952 and Malcolm on 6 October 1966 (aged 95). All three are buried in adjacent plots in Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon.

Their family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Cole/Robinson Tree.
