Violet Jane Coats was born on 30 July 1896 in Strathclair, Manitoba to George Coats (1863-1942) & Mary Jane Moore (1863-1919). Violet had one brother, George (b 1889) and one sister, Gladys (b 1891).
George Sr & Mary married in 1888 in Doncaster, Yorkshire where their first two children George and Gladys were born. In 1891, George Sr was a platelayer for the railway. In 1894 the family emigrated to Canada, at first settling in Gilbert Plains, Marquette, Manitoba where Violet Jane was born. They subsequently moved to Prairie, Battleford, Saskatchewan.
In 1918, the family was living at 420 23rd St W, Saskatoon and George Sr was working as a porter for CPR and later a trucker for CPR. Mary Jane died on 15 June 1919 and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon.
Violet worked as a live-in maid for Judge Alexander MacIntosh in 1921 in Battleford. No further information is known about Violet.
By 1935 George Sr had retired to Battleford but when he died on 6 June 1942 he was buried alongside Mary Jane in Woodlawn Cemetery.
This name has been assigned to Violet Jane Coats although the signature looks much more like Victor. No Victor J Coats has been found in Canada during the relevant period.
The family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Coats Tree.
