Agnes Victoria Depew was born on 29 June 1905 in Oxford, Ontario to Frederick Goldthorpe Depew (1878-1949) & Mary Louise Ellis (b 1879). Agnes had one brother, John Melmoth (Jack) (b 1916). Her father was a banker with the Traders’ Bank and later the Royal Bank of Canada. He was manager of the Royal Bank of Canada from 1917-1920 when the family resided at 220 11th St, Saskatoon and also when they moved to Sarnia, Lambton, Ontario from around 1935 until around 1945. He died in Palm Beach, Florida on 28 December 1948.
Agnes was a renowned artist and teacher of painting.
Miss Depew taught painting in evening classes run by the Petrolia and the Sarnia Boards of Education, the latter until just before her death on May 25th, 1977.
Her early work was largely watercolour, but from 1937 on, almost entirely oils, mostly of London buildings painted while in England. Her later work was of landscapes in Lambton County, with a number of river and boat scenes along the St. Clair River.

Agnes lived in London, England for various periods between 1930 and 1948 and then settled in Sarnia, Lambton until death on 25 May 1977.
