William had two brothers, Alonson Barrows (1866-1925) & Nelson (1871-1895) and two sisters, Sarah Ethel (b 1875) & Mable Melissa (b 1890). William grew up in Carleton, Ontario where his father was a farmer. William married Elizabeth Atkinson on 29 April 1891. Elizabeth was born on 10 April 1864 in Merrickville, Ontario to Francis Atkinson (1837-1920 & Charlotte Bowles (b 1939). Elizabeth had five sisters, Isabella (1862-1909), Ellen (b 1855), Mary Ann (Minnie) (1868-1961), Ethel (b 1871) & Caroline (Carrie) (1876-1910).

William and Elizabeth had four children; Lilly, Harvey Morgan & Gertrude who were born in 1892, 1893 & 1894 respectively, all appear to have died in infancy and Charlotte Elizabeth (Bessie) who was born on 6 July 1899 in Carleton, Ontario. William & Elizabeth moved Saskatoon in about 1906 and lived at 419 23rd St. William found work as a real estate agent initially but by 1916 he was listed in Henderson City Directory as a farmer in some years up to 1916.

By at least 1926, William & Elizabeth had moved to 2428 Birch, Vancouver, British Columbia where William was a machinist. They moved again, this time to 4478 11th St where they stayed until 1936 by which time William was a representative for a sewing machine company. William died aged 74 on 30 August 1941 in Vancouver. Elizabeth lived on in Vancouver and died aged 93 on 25 February 1958.

Their daughter, Charlotte was a primary school teacher in Saskatoon and then Vancouver for 30 years and lived with her parents. She died on 4 December 1954 from pneumonia.

Elizabeth’s sister Mary Ann (Minnie) Atkinson was born on 4 September 1868 in Manitock, Ontario. She married Samuel Franklyn (Frank) Meech on 7 March 1894 in Carleton, Ontario. Frank was born on 4 October 1865 in Prescott, Leeds and Grenville County, Ontario to Thomas English Meech (1836-1910) & Matilda Hutchins (1840-1918). Frank had one sister, Florilla (1867-1937) & one brother, Horace Fenwick (1880-1909). After their marriage Frank & Minnie continued to live in Ontario. Frank & Minnie had two daughters, Jocelyn Atkinson (1897-1977) & Jennie Alexandria (Jean) (1904-1976). The family came west in 1913 and settled at 434 4th Ave N in Saskatoon where they lived for pretty much the rest of their lives.

On his arrival in Saskatoon, Frank worked as a porter for CNR but worked most of his life as a clerk in the grocery trade. The family emigrated briefly to Los Angeles, California between 1919 and 1921 but then returned to the same house in Saskatoon. Frank died on 27 February 1947 and is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon. Minnie died on 21 January 1961 and is buried alongside her husband.
