William John Smith was born on 11 April 1883 in Dufferin, Ontario to James Moore Smith (1848-1920) & Elizabeth Erskine (b1854-1917). William had five brothers, Robert Henry (1875-1936), Charles James (1881-1951), George Herbert (1885-1920), David Ephraim (1888-1948) & Samuel Ernest (b 1891) and two sisters, Edith Leisha (1877-1909) & Sarah Elizabeth (1879-1916). On 30 December 1907 married Margaret (Maggie) Ann Lindsay who was born on 8 June 1884 in Mono, Ontario to Samuel Lindsay (1855-1943) & Mary Sturdy (1855-1930). Maggie had three brothers, William Henry (1880-1906), John Andrew (1889-1973 & Samuel George (1891-1914) and four sisters, Mary Elizabeth (1882-1966) Rebecca Adeline (1887-1980), Annie M (1898-1978) & Martha Eleanor (1898-1995). According to his obituary, he first came to Saskatoon in 1912. They lived at 220 Ave O South throughout their years in Saskatoon. William worked as a steam fitter for Watts & Co. William died on 25 August 1938 and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon. Maggie lived on at 220 Ave O South until 1940. No further trace of her has been found.
