JOHN MILTON FAWCETT and MARY ALICE FAWCETT née KEARNS and

SIMON EDGAR FREWIN FAWCETT and NORA MAY FAWCETT née ALWARD

Simon Wood Fawcett (1852-1933) married Ann Letitia Hambly (1854-1949) on 17 February 1875 in Wellington, Ontario, Canada. Simon & Ann had eight sons, Thomas Wesley (1876-1965), John Milton (1877-1967), Simon Edgar Frewin (1879-1971), Orwell Hambly (1880-187), William Cecil (1883-1884), Ornell Wells (1888-1966), Percibald W (b 1893) & Franklin Moir (Frank) (b 1896) and two daughters, Leila Jane (b 1895) & Florence Emma Louisa (1889-1976). At the time of his marriage Simon Sr was a merchant’s clerk but by 1881 he was a merchant as were several of his neighbours. In 1891 he was described as a commercial traveller in the census return.

John Milton Fawcett was born on 3 November 1877 in Wellington. He married Mary Alice Kearns (181-1974) on 6 January 1909 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Mary was born on 18 September 1881 in Ontario to John Kearns (1837-1919) & Mary Ann Stevenson (1850-1885). Mary had two brothers, William Shepherd (1868-1947) & Charles Lavell (b 1879) & three sisters, Annie (1869-1902), Rose/Rosanah (b 1877) & Elizabeth Adelina (b 1883). Mary also had a half-sister, Ellen Jane (Ella) (b 1866). John & Mary had four daughters, Helen (Ellen) (b 1909), Alice (b 1910), Margorie (b 1915) & Mary (b 1918) and one son (John W (Jack) (b 1912). After their marriage they were living Qu Appelle, Saskatchewan where John was a veterinary surgeon. John and his brothers moved to Saskatoon in 1912 where John continued his practise as a veterinary surgeon. John & Mary lived at 514 4th Ave until 1918. Thereafter they lived in Regina; at 2628 15th St, then 2040 Rae St for a few years and finally 2725 Broder St. John died in 1967 and Mary in 1974, both in their nineties.

Simon Edgar Frewin Fawcett was born on 28 February 1879 in Wellington, Ontario. He married Nora May Alward on 16 September 1908 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Nora was born on 5 January 1884 in Norfolk, Ontario to Lafayette Alward (b 1852) & Agnes T Steward (1852-1930). Nora had one brother, James L (b 1876) and four sisters, Clara Belle (b 1878), Pearl Viera (b 1885), Jessie Cecelia (b 1891) & Hazel Viola (b 1893). Simon & Nora had two children Maxwell (1910-1956) & Lylia “ Marion” (b 1911). Simon and his brother Thomas Wesley were the founders of Fawcett Hardware in Saskatoon in 1912. The business was established in the Kempthorne Building, 157 2nd Ave S. Thomas became President and Simon Vice-President. Their younger brother, Ornell joined first as a clerk and then Secretary-Treasurer. Having built up the business they both moved on; Thomas was a city councillor from 1913-1916. Simon died on 11 September 1971 after 63 years of marriage aged 89 and Nora on 19 November 1973; both are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon.

Thomas Wesley Fawcett was on the board of the Third Avenue United Church from 1906 until his death on 29 August 1965. He served as the treasurer for 46 years.
