RUTH HACKETT

Loyola Ruth Marie Hackett was born on 6 January 1900 in Austin, Illinois to John Hackett (b 1863) & Margaret Hedgecox (1876-1958). Ruth had two brothers, Roy Hedgecox (1892-1968) & Ray Frederick (1892-1968) and one sister, Romaine (1895-1982). John was a fire insurance agent. The family lived in and around Chicago.

From about 1920 Ruth worked as a stenographer for the railroad. In 1924 she applied for a passport to travel with her mother to Europe for two-three months. Ruth and her mother sailed from Quebec on SS ‘Montroyal’ departing 27 June and arriving in Liverpool on 4 July. They returned on SS ‘Antonia’ sailing from Cherbourg, France and arriving in Quebec on 24 August 1924.

No further information has been found about Ruth.

We have found no connection between Ruth and Saskatoon.

Ella May/Mae Ruth Hackett was born on 28 March 1911 in Vaughan, York, Ontario to George Henry Hackett (1880-1953) & Delilah (Lila) Duncan (1880-1966). Ella May Ruth had one brother, Joseph (1914-1980) and one sister, Hazel Jean (1915-2003). George was a farmer.

Ella May Ruth trained as a nurse and travelled to Rochester, New York, USA in 1926 to work in the hospital there. She married John Ansdell on 19 February 1938 in Barrie, Simcoe, Ontario.

Ella May Ruth died in Orillia, Ontario on 16 April 1995.

Whilst we have not found any connection linking Ella May Ruth to Saskatoon, she is included here for completeness.

We have failed to find any Ruth Hackett with a definite link to Saskatoon during the quilt signing time. These two candidates are included as remote possibilities. We would like to hear from anyone who can shed light on a Ruth Hackett living in Saskatoon around 1918.
