SEYMOUR FAMILY
Charles Henry Seymour was born on 8 January 1875 in Taylor Ridge, Rock Island, Illinois to Daniel Thomas Seymour (1831-1894) and Esther Elizabeth Seaver (1832-1923). His siblings were: Mary M (b 1852), Hezekiah Bennett (1853-1943), Joseph P (b 1856), Luella V (1858-1952), Daniel Gilbert (b 1860) and Sadie Elba (b 1863). In 1880, Charles was living with his family in Edgington, Rock Island, Illinois. He married Ivy May Parker on 10 November 1896. Ivy was born in October 1878 in Iowa to James Nathanial Parker (b 1854) and Hannah Catherine Rizor (b 1853). Her siblings were: George Raymond (b 1880), Jay Melville E (1882-1965), Paulino Tempest (b 1885), Bernard Monroe (1890-1961) and Gladys M G (b 1893). The Parker family was living in Lockridge, Jefferson, Iowa in 1880.
Charles and Ivy had tree children: Thelma (1902-1954), Andrew E (b 1910) and Arthur G (b 1912). They lived in Union, Hamilton, Nebraska in 1900 and in Lancaster, Nebraska in 1910. According to the obituary of Charles, the family came to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1913. By 1916, they were living at 216 2nd Ave S. According to the Henderson City Directory, they were still at that address in 1921, but the family could not be found in the census record. This may have been because Charles was a janitor in the Cole Block where they were living and it appeared that this building was only occupied by businesses. Perhaps the enumerator assumed no one lived there. According to the obituaries of Charles and Ivy, they operated the Seymour Photo Finishing Co, 135 21st St E for many years.
Thelma was listed as a photographer in the 1922 Henderson Directory. She was born in 1902 in Nebraska and married John Edwin Shaver (b 1890). Ivy died on 29 January 1941, Charles on 21 October 1951 and Thelma on 18 January 1954. All died in Saskatoon and were buried in Woodlawn Cemetery. I
t is believed that Charles' mother, Esther Elizabeth Seaver, who was born on 11 August 1832 in Switzerland, Indiana to Joseph Seaver (1805-1885) and Sarah Dodge (1813-1892) was the person who signed the quilt Esther Seymour 87years. She married Daniel Thomas Seymour on 17 November 1852 in Rock Island, Illinois. Daniel was born on 30 June 1831 in Switzerland, Indiana to Hezekiah Seymour (1794-1858) and Mary Bennett (1795-1841). Esther died on 12 June 1923 in Culver City, Los Angeles, California and Daniel on 10 February 1894 in Taylor Ridge, Rock Island, Illinois.
We believe that Esther must have been in Saskatoon for a visit when the quilt was made as we could find no other candidate for the Esther Seymour signature. Also, this name was situated in the same area of the quilt as the names of her reputed son and his family.
This family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Seymour Tree.
