Rebecca Rose was born with the last name Rosenthal in Galatz, Galati, Romania on 13 November 1893 to Emmanuel HaLevi (Menachem Manoli) Rosenthal (died circa 1897) and Esther Raisa Solomon (b 1863). Her siblings were: Arthur (born Avraham Ben E H Rosenthal) (1888-1972), Edwin Sidney (born Noah Rosenthal) and Martin (born Moishe Aaron Rosenthal).
Arthur and, possibly, Edwin immigrated to Duluth, Minnesota in 1903 when Arthur was 14 years old. He first lived with an uncle, likely Leon Solomon. Some time after arriving in the United States, he changed his surname to Rose. Rebecca, her mother Esther, her brother, Martin (b 1896), and her mother's father, Feige Solomon (b 1846) boarded "SS Uranium" in Rotterdam, Netherlands on 27 July 1911 and arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia on 7 August 1911. The Rosenthal family used the surname Rose in the travel documentation. They were destined for Duluth, Minnesota where Esther's brother, Leon Solomon was living. There was also a border crossing record generated for the same group of people at about the same time which gave Leon's relationship to each person. In the passenger list and the border crossing record, the name of Rebecca's brother was Moses. Perhaps Moishe sounded like Moses or perhaps Martin also went by the name Moses - the birth year for Moses was the same as for Martin in later documentation.
Leon Solomon was stated to be Feige's son and Leon's address was given as 504 W Superior St, Duluth, Minnesota. Esther's place of birth was given as Galah or Galak, Vasdoy(?) and that of the other three as Galatz. Their last place of residence was Galah or Galak, but this place in Romania could not be located, so perhaps the spelling was incorrect. Census, marriage and birth records revealed that Leon Solomon married Hannah Kaufman (b 1873) and had two children: Abraham (b 1891) and Miriam (b 1894), but no census could be found where any of the Rose family was living with them.
In 1913 Arthur moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and established a dry cleaning and furrier business. By 1918, Rebecca, Martin and Esther had moved to 507 Ave E South in Saskatoon and Rebecca was a clerk at JF Cairns. In 1921 Rebecca was listed in the Saskatoon Henderson Directory at 614 3rd Ave N and was proprietor of The Rose Needlecraft Shop. The 1921 census found Martin and his mother, Esther, at that same address, but Rebecca was not listed. In 1924 Rebecca was at 542 3rd Ave N and from 1926 to 1933 was at 522 3rd Ave N. She was still operating the Needlecraft Shop in 1933. She likely died on 22 August 1963 in Los Angeles, California as a death record exists for Rebecca Rose whose mother's maiden name was Solomon.
