John Rose was born in Ontario in 1853. He married Annie (1876-1916 to 1921). Their children were: Thomas (b 1903), Margaret (b 1910) and Edyth (b 1912). As there was 7 years between the ages of Thomas and Margaret, it was possible that Thomas was born from a different union. Thomas and Margaret were born in Manitoba and Edyth in Saskatchewan.
John first appeared at 351 Ave S South in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in the 1913 Henderson Saskatoon Directory. He continued to live at that location until at least 1940. By the time of the 1921 census, he was listed as a widower. He died on 22 February 1950 in Saskatoon and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in an unmarked grave. Only his daughters, Mrs Margaret Crawford who was living in Marshall, Saskatchewan and Mrs F Booth who was living in Saskatoon were mentioned as next of kin in his obituary. Much effort was expended trying to determine the ancestry of John and Annie, but it proved fruitless.
Annie's death date could not be located so it is impossible to know if she was alive at the time that the quilt was being made. Annie Rose and J Rose did not sign next to each other on the quilt, so it is quite possible that they were not related. Another equally viable candidate for the Annie Rose signature has also been researched.
This family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Rose 2 Tree.
