THIRD AVENUE METHODIST CHURCH QUILT

A CANADIAN RED CROSS QUILT

Another quilt?

ANNIE ROSE

Annie Laura Clinch was born in Feb 1867 in England. She was first married to John Alfred Denton (1869-1913). Their children were: Laura (b 1868), Edith Annie (1899-1925), Gladys Mary (b 1902), William Alfred (1907-1986) and George Reginald (1909-1989). The Denton family left Bristol, England aboard SS ‘Royal Edward' and landed in Halifax, Nova Scotia on 10 April 1912. They gave their destination as Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. John was identified as a blacksmith.

John died in Saskatoon on 28 January 1913. By the time of the 1916 census, Annie had married Charles Rose (1866-1917). They lived at 407 Ave I North. Annie and her children were enumerated at the same address in 1921. According to her British Columbia death registration she died on 4 September 1929 and had been living in British Columbia for the preceding seven years. She was listed as a widow of Charles in the 1918 Saskatoon Henderson Directory.

Annie is one of two possible candidates for the Annie Rose signature. She was definitely living in Saskatoon during the time that the quilt was made. The other candidate may have died before 1918 - a death date has not yet been found for her, but it is known that she died between 1916 and 1921.
