Arzelda (Zelda) Jones was born in 1871 in Linn County, Iowa to James Riley Jones (1836-1914) and Elmira Jones (1844-1912). Her siblings were: William W (1862-1928), John Wesley (1864-1961), James (1866-1937), Thomas (1868-1934), Henry (b 1873), Manford (b 1878), Emerson (b 1879) and Elmer (b 1882). The Jones family was living in Sac, Sac County, Iowa in 1880.

According to census records, they immigrated to Canada in 1902. In 1906 they were living on 28-35-3-W3 in the Rural Municipality (RM) of Blucher, Saskatchewan. A grant was issued to Henry for this homestead on 14 November 1905. Virgil Ryley was born on the homestead on 18 Aug 1904 and another son, Harry, was born at an unknown location in Saskatchewan on 10 November 1911.
By 1916, the family had moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. They were living at 334 Saskatchewan Crescent in 1918. Henry was a real estate dealer and auctioneer. As an interesting side note, Henry's parents, his brother, Jesse, and his sister, Sarah, were all living in Saskatoon around this time. Henry died on 28 January 1952 and Arzelda on 23 July 1944. Both died in Saskatoon and were buried in Woodlawn Cemetery. That was also the final resting place of Henry's parents.

Arzelda married Henry Thomas Rose on 29 October 1890 in Sac County, Iowa. Henry was born in 1872 in Jefferson County, Iowa to Benjamin Franklin McMachen Rose (1834-1917) and Sarah Elizabeth Smith (1839-1918). His siblings were: John William (1859-1937), Sarah J (b 1862) and Jesse Frank (1869-1937). Henry was living with his parents and siblings in Middle Fork, Ringgold, Iowa in 1880.
In 1900, Arzelda and Henry were living in Herdland, Clay County, Iowa with four children: Lola B (1891-1964), Benjamin "Frank" (b 1893), Violet E (b 1895) and Charles Everette (1902-1939).
