Viva May Ring was born on 9 May 1890 in Freeport, Digby, Nova Scotia to Edgar Ring (b 1860) and Mary Eugenia Delaney (b 1869). She had one sister, Mary Elizabeth Ring (1900-1985). Viva lived with her family in Freeport until at least 1911.
In 1914 she was living at 635 Broadway Ave N, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and was a teacher at Westmount School. In 1916 she boarded with Joseph and Minnie Sylvester at 312 5th Ave N and from 1918 to 1919 she lived in the Connaught Block at 247 3rd Ave S. She was listed as a teacher in Saskatoon Henderson Directories and in the 1916 census.
Between 1919 and 1921, she married Murdo William Gordon and in 1921 they were living in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan. Murdo was born on 19 November 1887 in Boissevain, Manitoba to William Gordon (b 1847) and Mary Davidson (b 1855). His siblings were: Roy D S (b 1880), Anna Elizabeth "Ethel" (b 1883), Norman Davidson (b 1885) and Sarah "Mabel" (b 1890). He lived with his family in Bossevain until 1916.
Murdo died on 26 June 1955 in White Rock, British Columbia. According to his death registration, on which Viva was the informant, he had lived in British Columbia for seven years before his death. Viva died on 3 July 1974 in Surrey, British Columbia. Her sister, Mary, was the informant on her death registration. It is unknown if Murdo and Viva had any children, but the fact that children were not informants on either of their death registrations, suggests that they had none.
