THIRD AVENUE METHODIST CHURCH QUILT

A CANADIAN RED CROSS QUILT

Another quilt?

RICHARD J MOORE

Richard Williamson Moore was born on 20 October 1883 in Listowel, Perth, Ontario to John James Moore (1861-1929) and Mary Delinda Murray (1858-1944). His siblings were: Louisa May (b 1881), James Henry (b 1886), Iona Delinda (b 1889), Carrie Irene (1891-1892), Francis Rice (Frank) (1893-1971) and Wilbur StClair (1901-1902). In 1891 the Moore family was living in Daly, Manitoba and in 1901, Rapid City, Manitoba.

In 1916, it would seem that Richard was lodging in Kindersley and the census indicated that he was a Methodist, a Car Inspector and a widower. He was boarding in the same household as Laura O'Shaughnessy who was one of three sisters believed to be responsible for the L O'Shaughnessy signature on the quilt.

Richard married Nettie Brown on 26 February 1917 in York, Ontario. This document gave his status as bachelor and occupation as Car Foreman with religion as Methodist.

Nettie Brown was born on 14 June 1889 in Huron, Ontario to George Brown (b 1854) and Mary Elder (b 1855). Her siblings were: Maggie (b 1879), Lizzie (b 1881), Lottie (b 1883) and Russel (b 1886). She was raised in Howick, Huron, Ontario.

Richard was listed in the 1919 Saskatoon Henderson Directory at 628 Broadway. He was district car foreman for the CNR (Canadian National Railway). Richard and Nettie were living at 709 University Drive in Saskatoon in 1921 and were still at that address in 1923. Richard died on 9 July 1943 in Saskatoon and was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Nettie lived at Bessborough Hotel, Spadina Crescent E after Richard’s death until 1945. Nothing further has be discovered about Nettie.

This family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave Moore 1 Tree.
