ARTHUR RUSSELL McPARLAND and MAUD ELETHA McPARLAND
Arthur Russell McParland was born on 7 September 1891 in Port Arthur, Thunder Bay, Ontario to William Henry McParland (1854-1927) and Emily Johnson (1864-1921). His siblings were: Elizabeth A (Lizzie) (b 1881), Caroline (Carrie) (b 1883), Emily (Emma) (1885-1976), William (1888-1902), George Henry (b 1890), Eva (1893-1922), Frederick Martin (1895-1951), Edna May (1896-1966), Wesley (1898-1962), John Howard (1900-1957) and Alice Maud (b 1904). He and his family were living in Port Arthur in 1901.
Arthur first appeared in Saskatoon Henderson Directories in 1914. At that time he was living at the Baldwin Hotel and was a tailor. Some time before 1916 he married Maud Eletha (surname unknown) who was born in Ontario in 1891. They lived in the Dunham Apartments in 1916, at 715 5th Ave N from 1918-1919, at 815 5th Ave N in 1920 and at 220 4th Ave S in 1921. Arthur was proprietor of Baldwin Tailors and in 1921 Maud was listed in the directory as proprietor of Betty’s Upstairs Shop. 1921 was the last year they were listed in Henderson Directories. Maud died on 21 January 1925 in Edmonton Alberta. Arthur married Pearl Angus (1907-1996). He died in Edson, Alberta on 20 February 1946. He and Pearl were buried beside each other in Glenwood Cemetery, Edson.
It seems that Arthur was granted a patent for “a container for carrying shirts” on 8 March 1921. Unfortunately no details of the patent are available. However Arthur’s patent was cited in a more recent patent dated 13 December 2012.
