BARBARA KING McGEACHY née BURNS

Barbara King Burns was born in Glasgow, Scotland on 21 September 1874 to James Gilchrist Burns (b 1840) and Barbara King Adam (b 1843). Her siblings were: Annie McFarlane (b 1864), James (b 1868), John (b 1870) and William Adam (b 1872), In 1881 the Burns family was living in Glasgow. Barbara married James McGeachy circa 1898. James was born on 29 April 1871 to James McGeachy (b 1830) and Agnes Urquhart Ferrie (1842-1877). His siblings were: Sarah Stark (1869-1951), William Ferrie (1873-1955), Robertson Duncan Campbell (b 1876) and Agnes Margaret Ferrie (1878-1940). His father was likely married to Elizabeth Gilmour circa 1880. She had previously been married to George Nairn and had four children: Elizabeth (Bessie) (b 1860), George (b 1861), Rachel (b 1863) and Jessie (b 1866).

The McGeachy family lived in Glasgow (1871), Cathcart, Renfrewshire (1881) and Glasgow (1891). James and Barbara had two children: James Burns (1899-1966) and Barbara Agnes Adam (b 1902), both born in Glasgow. In 1901 they were living at 6 Napiershall St, Glasgow with their eldest child. On 5 September 1913, the McGeachy family boarded SS ‘Empress of Ireland' in Liverpool, England and sailed to Quebec, Canada where they disembarked on 11 September 1913. They gave their final destination as Saskatoon, Saskatchewan where James was to be a merchant. From 1914 to 1918 they lived at 619 Lorne St and James was with McGeachy and Mowat, a wholesale confectionery. By 1920 they were living in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Travel records for various family members placed them in Winnipeg as late as 1931. Nothing more could be found about this family.
