MARY McGREGOR née FAWCETT and ROBERTA McGREGOR

Mary Fawcett was born on 24 October 1868 in Perth, Ontario to Thomas Fawcett (1838-1886) and Elizabeth Colquhoun (1840-1906). Her siblings were: James (b 1865), Arthur (b 1867), Isabella (Belle) (1871-1965) and William Moses (1876-1947). Her family moved to the United States in 1869 and she was raised in Cottonwood County, Minnesota. She married Robert Edgar McGregor on 10 September 1891 in String Lakes, Minnesota. Robert was born on 22 August 1845 in Ohio to Alexander McGregor (1804-1851) and Eliza Harris (1814-1885). His siblings were Reuben J (1840-1879), Sarah Elizabeth (b 1841), Samuel H (b 1843), Joseph N (b 1847), Margaret A (b 1849) and Alexander (b 1851).

In 1850 the McGregor family was living in Pultney, Belmont, Ohio. Robert and Mary had two daughters: Lucy (1885-1886) and Mary Roberta who was born on 19 March 1893 in Windom, Cottonwood, Minnesota. Robert died about a year after Mary's birth on 12 February 1894 in Windom. Mary and her mother remained in Windom until at least 1910.

By 1912 they had moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and lived at 1007 Temperance Street until at least 1956. In 1918 Mary R was a school teacher. Until that time she was a student and no occupation was given for her mother. In 1921, Mary R was a stenographer. Mary Sr died on 5 June 1964 in Victoria, British Columbia. According to her death record, she had lived in that province for the seven years preceding her death. Her daughter, M R McGregor was the informant and they were both living at the same address. Mary was taken back to Windom to be buried next to her husband in Lakeview Cemetery.

Mary Roberta married John Matthew Varey in 1975. He was born on 14 January 1889 in the Blantyre area of Grey, Ontario to Robert Varey (1855-1929) and Mary Kennedy Sewell (1867-1910). His siblings were: Frederick (b 1884), Mary Louisa (b 1890), Ida Mae Sewell (1893-1920), Robert William (1896-1913), Verna Pearl (b 1898), George Wesley (b 1900), Mertie Bernice (b 1902) and Hazel Vernetta (b 1904). John was living in St Vincent, Grey, Ontario in 1901. He was first married to Hazel Aileen Falls (1893-1958) in March of 1923 in Calgary, Alberta and had two daughters.

John died in Victoria on 12 April 1979 and Mary on 3 March 1985 in the same city. John, Mary and John's first wife, Hazel, were all buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon.
