A CANADIAN RED CROSS QUILT

Another quilt?

EDWARD ROBERTSON McKAY

Edward Robertson McKay was born on 20 December 1889 in Durham, Ontario to Reverend George McKay (1852-1927) and Isabella (Bella) Ginn (1864-1938). His siblings were: Alexander Robert (b 1887), Christina (1893-1954), George Sutherland (1893-1981), Mayme Florence (b 1896), May Isabella (b 1898), John Northway (1901-1965) and Hugh Grant (1904-1926). Edward was raised in Kincardine Township, Bruce, Ontario.

From a WWI USA draft document dated 5 June 1917 in Chicago, Illinois, it was learned that Edward was a dental student at NW Dental due to graduate on 13 June 1917.

In 1917 E R McKay was listed in the Saskatoon Henderson Directory as a dentist living at 603 116 3rd Ave East in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He was also in Saskatoon in 1918 and shared a practice with Dr J A Moran at 201 Drinkle Building #3. In 1921 he was enumerated in Biggar, Saskatchewan with his wife, Amy M who was born in England in 1897. Edward and his wife appeared in voter's lists for Biggar in 1935 and 1945. Edward died on 9 February 1955 and Amy on 9 October 1987. They were both buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon.

As they did not appear in the obituary index for the Saskatoon newspaper at the times of their death, it is speculated that they were likely still living in Biggar or at a location other than Saskatoon when they died.

This family tree can be found on Ancestry under the title 3rd Ave McKay Tree.
