JOHN BLOICE LISH (JACK) and LILY VICTORIA LORRAINE GOLDSPINK née HAYES

John Bloice Lish Goldspick was born on 2 August 1890 in Oxford, Ontario to James Goldspink (1840-1917) and Martha Blair (1860-1906). John had two brothers, Andrew Blair (1891-1983) & Samuel (1895-1951) and four sisters, Sarah Jane (1893-1988), Elizabeth (1897-1954), Margaret (1899-1974) and Winnifred Blair (1902-1996).

Around 1917/18, John married Lilian Victoria Lorraine Hayes. Lillian was born on 26 March 1897 in Rotherhithe, London, England to Joseph William Hays (1867-1941) and Susannah Curtis (1868-1946). Lilian had three brothers, Joseph W J (1890-1960), Henry George (1891-1892) & Edmund George (1899-1991) and five sisters, Philadelphia Susanna Norah (b 1893), Florence (b 1895), Ethel May (b 1903), Edith Violet (b 1905) & Millicent Rose (b 1907).

According to census records, Lilian came to Canada in 1913, John and Lilian had four children, Georgina Victoria Laraine (1919-1931), John Joseph (1920-1943), James William Harold (1922-1999) and Stanley.

In 1921, John was a coal miner and they were living in the Municipality of Carbon #278, Bow River, Alberta. By 1935, John and Lilian were at 529 McKay St, Essex, Ontario and John was a carpenter.

John died on 11 October 1966 in Windsor, Essex County and Lilian died in 1970 in Essex County.

Whilst we could find no record of John and Lilian being in Saskatoon, they are the only John/Jack & Lily Goldspink that we could find anywhere in Saskatchewan during quilt signing time.
