ANNE MARIA HERITAGE née WHITE

Anne “Maria” White was born on 18 November 1841 in Cambridgeshire, England to William White (1821-1884) and Susan (1821-1885). Maria had five siblings, Robert (b 1846), Mary Pulenah (b 1848), Thomas (1854), Edith (1858-1939) and Rachel (1860). The family came to Canada in about 1855.

In 1861, The family were living in a log house in Howick, Huron, Ontario and William was a farmer. 1871 was the last census that all the family were together as on 10 December 1873, Maria married Thomas Ezra Heritage (1824-1899). Thomas was born in Kineton, Warwickshire, England to William (1794-1850) and Mary Ann Greene (1801-1876). It seems that after Thomas’s father died Marry Ann and the children came to Canada arriving in time for the 1852 census in Wellington, Ontario.

Thomas Heritage had married his cousin Mary Ann Blakeman (1839-1872) on 16 November 1858 in Wellington, Ontario. Mary Ann Blakeman was born in about July 1839 in Kineton, Warwickshire to John Blakeman (b 1794) and Elizabeth Greene (b 1801). Elizabeth and Mary Ann Greene were sisters. Thomas and Mary had three children, Albert William (1860-1941), John Blakeman (b 1862) and Bertha Helen (1864-1895). Bertha is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London, Ontario.

Thomas and Maria had one daughter, Susan “Frances” (1876-1942). Thomas died on 12 March 1899 in London, Middlesex County, Ontario. He is also buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Maria continued to live in London, Ontario.

Frances Heritage was a school teacher from at least 1897 in London, Ontario until 1911. In 1912 she had moved west to Saskatoon and was a public school teacher. In 1913-1914 she was living at 524 11th St and started teaching at Albert School in Saskatoon. This was when her widowed mother came to live with Frances in Saskatoon.

Maria died in 1919 and is also buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London, Ontario.

Frances taught at Albert School, Saskatoon until about 1936. Frances died in 1942 and is also buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, London, Ontario.
